Libertarian Activist of the Year award at the ALS Conference

The Australian Libertarian Society just hosted the 4th annual Friedman Conference up in Sydney, and it was a simply incredible event, with over 300 people in attendance.

Let’s play “Where’s Topher?”

My team video’d the whole thing, so if you couldn’t be there then be patient for another week or so and you’ll be able to start watching sessions online. And the videos will be well worth watching! There were more amazing speakers than I can count, so many good people doing so many amazing things. It was educational, inspirational, and darn good fun too.

A personal highlight for me was being awarded the Uber ‘Libertarian Activist of the Year’ award, for the ‘Coalition of Obsolete Industries’ video, which you can see here: https://www.facebook.com/stopprogress/videos

The video went a little bit viral on both Facebook and YouTube, and I didn’t know this until the conference but apparently the NSW government had been planning to give over $150,000 to each taxi plate holder as compensation, but when the decision came out a few weeks after the ‘Coalition of Obsolete industries’ video came out, the ‘compensation’ was just $20,000. That’s a huge saving to NSW taxpayers!

Libertarian Activist of the Year award

‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ winner Greg Lindsay, ‘Young Libertarian of the Year’ winner Senator James Patterson, ‘Libertarian of the Year’ winner Matt Barrie, and finally me, awarded the ‘Libertarian Activist of the Year’.

Uber sponsor the ‘Activist’ award, but had nothing to do with the judging, and I’m told that the decision to award the prize to me was made before Uber were confirmed as the sponsor for this year, so the fact that it’s a video about uber is genuine coincidence.

It would be remiss of me not to acknowledge the many other people who played an instrumental role in the COOI project, from Tim Andrews of the Australian Taxpayers’ Alliance, who had the idea and pulled the larger campaign together, as well as those you see in the video, and those you don’t see in the video but who worked behind the scenes on so many things from the graphic design, to the filming, editing, etc. This project was a thrill to work on and I’m proud to have been just one part of a great team to make it happen.

And of course, whilst it’s lovely and greatly appreciated to be acknowledged for the work that I’ve done, there remains far FAR more work to do. And this year should be an exciting year for me and for the Libertarian movement as a whole, as there are some great projects in the works from many different people and entities.

Oh, and of course, thankyou to you. My videos and articles wouldn’t spread as far and wide as they do without you liking and sharing my posts and videos! So please keep up the great work, comment, like, share, and help me to keep making a difference.
