Every time Keir Starmer opens his mouth, he makes it worse.

The UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has provided a little more detail on how the UK’s digital ID, also known as the Brit card, will work.

And if he thought that these new comments were going to reduce opposition, then he is sorely mistaken. As we watch these videos, note that he’s been quite careful in how he says what he says. But it’s very clear that the UK government plans to bully British citizens into adopting this digital ID, whether they like it or not. And that’s obvious once you actually consider the implications of what he’s saying in the videos that I’ll show you in just a moment. Now, I’ve said before that the digital ID is a line we must not cross, and that is as true in the UK as it is here in Australia. I covered Kama’s digital ID announcement in detail in episode 192 of the Topher project. But let’s quickly remind ourselves of what Keir Starmer said when he announced the digital ID.

[From video]

Today, I am announcing this government will make a new free of charge digital ID mandatory for the right to work by the end of this parliament. Let me spell that out. You will not be able to work in the United Kingdom if you do not have digital ID. It’s as simple as that. [End video]

It’s as simple as that. It’s as if they can’t actually hear themselves and how much they sound like a Bond villain or something out of Star Wars. You won’t be able to work. Well, that’s about as mandatory as it gets. And yet, we’ll hear from Keir Starmer in just a moment that he insists that it’s not mandatory. And you won’t be fined for not having one. You’ll just have to pay £85 whenever you need to verify your ID without one. But it’s not a fine, and it’s not mandatory. You’ll just have to pay money and not work. That’s all.

We’ll get to the details in a minute, but first, my name’s Topher Field. Okay, here is Keir Starmer’s update video sharing a few more details about exactly what this digital ID will entail.

[From video]

There are some people who may completely flat out refuse to get a digital ID. Will those people be fined? No, there’s no this is not something you have to carry or have to produce or anything like that. Um, and there’ll be no fining of people for not having it. Um, it’ll be something which simply makes life a lot easier. The prime minister faced criticism for his digital ID policy with some people accusing him of presiding over a nanny state. However, today at an exclusive event, Kia Sama clarified what the digital ID might actually mean for the public.

For people who don’t have a mobile phone, um then this isn’t mandatory. So, you don’t have to have it. Um it will make your life easier if you want it, but you don’t have to have it. Um we will and we’re consulting on what other forms of ID would help them. Again, it won’t be mandatory. You can still use your passport or your birth certificate or your three bank accounts if you want. However many times you can choose to pay £85 to a company to prove you that you are who you are every time you need to. Or you can take the easy route which is get digital ID. [End video]

Yeah, there are some astonishing admissions in that little video. What Prime Minister Keir Starmer wanted you to hear was having a digital ID will make your life easier. But what he actually said was, “If you don’t get a digital ID, we will make your life harder.” He was at pains to insist that it’s not mandatory, but he hasn’t walked back on his initial insistence that you won’t be able to work in the UK without one. So, it’s not mandatory, unless you want to put food on the table. You could be a welfare bludger if you want to. And then you won’t need to get a digital ID. And by the way, you won’t get fined for not having one. You’ll just have your life made difficult every time you try and prove your identity the old-fashioned way. Or you can pay £85 for identity verification without using a digital ID. Or you can just take the easy route. You see where this is going? This is genuinely dangerous language from Keir Starmer. And the digital ID is a bad idea no matter how you try and dress it up as being for convenience. Let’s go back through that video and pick up a few key points along the way to decode his language and make sense of the nonsense.

There are some people who may completely flat out refuse to get a digital ID. Will those people be fined? No, there’s no, this is not something you have to carry or have to produce or anything like that. Um, and there’ll be no fining of people for not having it. Um, it’ll be something which simply makes life a lot easier. [End video]

Oh, okay. So, you won’t need to produce it unless you plan to work in the UK, then you will have to produce it. So it is something that you have to produce but also it it isn’t something that if you never have to produce it then it serves no purpose whatsoever. What Keir Starmer is doing here is saying that because you don’t have to have it on you at all times then it’s no big deal. It’s not a Nazi style papers please type of document that can be demanded at any time. So therefore what’s the big deal? But that’s a false equivalence. The fact is you’re going to have to produce it sometimes and it’s those times that give it its power and make it so dangerous.

[From video]

The prime minister faced criticism for his digital ID policy with some people accusing him of presiding over a nanny state. I’m not accusing him of presiding over a nanny state. [End video]

I’m accusing him of being an aspiring tyrant. Welfare, red tape, green tape, and overregulation is what creates a nanny state, and the UK already has one of those. A digital ID is about control, pure and simple. It’s the foundation of a digital prison and a future social credit score, which I predict will be based on CO2 emissions accounts that will be assigned to each of us to control how much we can travel, how much we can eat, and what we can do. And it will be linked to digital money which can then be used to control what and how much we can buy. Nanny state. Don’t insult Keir Starmer like that. The UK has been a nanny state for decades. This is about whether Keir Starmer can take the next step and turn it into a prison.

[From video]

However, today at an exclusive event, Kiama clarified what the digital ID might actually mean for the public. For people who don’t have a mobile phone, um then this isn’t mandatory. So you don’t have to have it. Um it will make your life easier. [End video]

You don’t have to have it. It won’t be mandatory. Except that..

[From video]

Today, I am announcing this government will make a new free of charge digital ID mandatory for the right to work by the end of this parliament. Let me spell that out. You will not be able to work in the United Kingdom if you do not have digital ID. It’s as simple as that. [End video]

Which is it? Because he hasn’t walked back those original comments.

So, if it isn’t mandatory, if you don’t have a mobile phone, you don’t have to have a digital ID. Well, or a job. Is that how this works? If Starmer thought that he was clarifying things with these new comments, he most certainly was not. He’s just contradicting himself and muddying the waters even more. Either he doesn’t understand his own digital ID plan. I don’t think that’s the case. Or he is speaking nonsense to confuse everyone because he knows that the media won’t hold him to account for it.

[From video]

If you want it, but you don’t have to have it. Um, we will and we’re consulting on what other forms of ID would help them. Again, it won’t be mandatory. You can still use your passport or your birth certificate or your three bank accounts if you want, however many times. [End video]

So, people can just do the thing that they’re already doing. Show the things that we already show. Well, if that’s true, then what’s this nonsense about not being able to work? Keir Starmer is showing himself to be unfit to lead a fish and chip shop, let alone a country. Either he’s contradicting himself on purpose or he has absolutely no idea about anything.

[From video]

You can choose to pay £85 to a company to prove you that you are who you are every time you need to. [End video]

Now, that’s a reference to private ID verification companies which can provide third party ID verification for a fee.

But if people can just use their passport or whatever anyway then how is that relevant? Keir Starmer is desperate to make the government digital ID seem like a great idea when compared to the other options like the documents we already have. But it’s not a good idea compared to that. So, instead he throws in this red herring referring to private ID verification services. Services which by the way require you to prove your ID to them in the first place using your passport, your driver’s license, etc. Make it make sense. He’s just throwing out pure distractions at this point.

[From video] Or you can take the easy route, which is get digital ID. [End video]

Ah, yes. Just take the easy route. Just comply. It’s easier. It’s really not hard complying. Did you know that if you just do as you’re told, things will go better for you? Why would you make your life harder? Why would you do that to yourself? Just do what I’m telling you to do and then I wouldn’t have to make your life so difficult. I’m only doing this to you because you didn’t take the easy route. This is all your fault. You decided to do this the hard way. Does that sound familiar? That’s exactly the kind of manipulation that you will hear from abusers. It’s your fault that I have to make your life more difficult. You’re the one who decided not to do it the easy way. And in the end, that is what this comes down to. Government control and abuse.

Now, maybe you think I’m going too far in my warnings that a digital ID is a recipe for tyranny. But you can’t deny that everything about Keir Starmer’s announcement and his more recent update about how it’ll all work and why it’s so great is done in the language of abuse, an abuser to their victims. And this isn’t just about how much power is being given to Keir Starmer personally. This power is being given to every future UK government as well. And what are the chances that a future government won’t abuse that power? Maybe you think Keir Starmer is an angel. Okay. But what if a future Jeremy Corbyn type were to have all of that power? Or what if perhaps Nigel Farage or Reform were to be the next government of the UK? Would you be okay with this much power being in their hands? Even if you do ridiculously think that Keir Starmer can be trusted with this much power. I don’t care at all about whose hands the power is in. No one is fit to have this much power.

Now, we can stop technology being turned into a digital prison simply by stopping the digital ID from happening.

This is the single most important fight of our time to stop a digital ID from happening anywhere in the western world. But also then to turn public opinion to the point that a future digital ID simply becomes impossible because it would be political suicide to even propose it. We have our work cut out for us. Make no mistake. But if this is the best that Keir Starmer can do to promote the digital ID, then clearly this is a fight that we can win and must win. Because if the UK falls to a digital ID, it will become far more difficult for us to defeat it here at home or for others to defeat it elsewhere in the Western world.
