Later in this video, I’m going to play to you five minutes that I’ve edited down out of a much longer speech that the US President Donald Trump gave earlier this week.
And I can guarantee you won’t have heard this speech anywhere in the Australian mainstream media. And there’s a reason why they don’t want you to know about it. It’s because President Trump is urging the American people to get back to worshiping God and specifically to get back to praying for their country at least once every week for the rest of the next 12 months or so in the leadup to the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence which will be celebrated on the 4th of July next year.
But first, before we get to that speech, here in Australia, the government, in contrast, insists that it is God and that it has the authority to control every single aspect of your life, right down to your very thoughts, beliefs, and in fact, the prayers that you are allowed to pray. Here in Australia, our government most certainly believes that there is a God. It’s them. And this should concern you even if you’re not religious because in post-Christian secular Australia, we don’t believe that God is dead. We believe that he put on a tie and ran for election. We give godlike powers to whoever happens to be the premier of a state or the prime minister of the country at whatever time. Religious freedom is well and truly dead in Australia, and I’ll prove it soon. It’s just that people haven’t fully cottoned on yet and the rest of our freedoms are at risk of following suit unless we wise up real quick.
Now, in case you don’t believe me, you think this is just hype, let me get straight into the receipts. I talk about this in detail in my second book, Good Christians Break Bad Laws. It’s all about government taking on the role of God in Australia. And specifically, I talk about the Victorian Change or Suppression Conversion Practices Act. Now, this act makes it a crime punishable by prison to pray an illegal prayer. In this case the illegal prayer is to pray for someone who is experiencing gender dysphoria and to pray for them that they will come to accept the body and the gender that they were born with as opposed to changing their body to match some other gender.
Thanks to this change or suppression conversion practices act. Such a prayer that that people would simply accept the body and the gender and the identity that they were given at birth. That is now a crime, and it is a crime that the Victorian government are desperate to prosecute someone for. Just searching for the act by name online will bring up links for you to report people to the police or to the human rights commission or to contact an LGBTIQA plus liaison officer. Such is their desperation to find and make an example of someone who has violated this act.
Weirdly, if I search for the Victorian Crimes Act, you know, the one that outlaws the little things like theft and assault and rape and murder, no such helpful contact details appear. It’s almost like they think that it’s more important to catch someone who prays the wrong prayers than it is to catch a thief or a killer.
The act itself is 45 pages long, which does seem a little unnecessary, but in section five, it explicitly says that the act still applies regardless of whether the person being prayed for consents to the practice.
So, you can be criminalized even if the person you’re praying for actually wants you to pray for them, likes what you prayed, and indeed asked you to do it. A practice, by the way, is defined as including carrying out a religious practice, including but not limited to a prayer-based practice, a deliverance practice, or an exorcism. And even referring someone to another place where they can then be prayed for is still an offense under the act.
Over in section 8, it states that these criminal laws apply even if the practice is done outside of Victoria, if the effects of the conduct occurred even partly in Victoria. By which I think that means that someone who is a Victorian resident would still be captured by this act even if they traveled outside of Victoria or traveled overseas to seek out a practice. And thanks to section 5, even if they wanted the so-called conversion suppression practice, these criminal penalties would still apply.
Now, in part two of the legislation, we have details of the offenses and penalties. Let’s look at section 11. The offense of engaging in one or more change or suppression practices that cause injury. Now, what’s an injury under this act? Well, for that, we have to go back to the definitions where we learn that injury has the same meaning as it has in section 15 of the Crimes Act 1958. Great. So, if we look that up, injury includes harm to mental health. Well, the next question is obviously what constitutes harm. And if you try to look up what harm is under the Victorian criminal law, you don’t find an explicit definition. What you find is that harm means injury. So, an injury is defined as harm and harm is defined as injury. Clear as mud.
So let’s get this completely straight. If someone who lives in Victoria comes to you, even if you’re not in Victoria, and asks you for prayer because they have unwanted thoughts or feelings about their gender, and then you pray for them in accordance with their request, and the Victorian government finds out about it, they can launch a criminal investigation to determine whether you have injured the person who asked you for prayer, even if that person has no problem with how you prayed for them. And if the investigators decide that you’ve caused an injury, and by injury they mean harm obviously, which is of course defined as injury of course. And if they then find you guilty of change suppression practices causing injury or harm or whichever injury heart, you are liable for up to 5 years in prison or 600 penalty units, which right now is worth $203.51 per penalty unit, which makes for a potential fine of up to $122,160 for a prayer. 5 years in prison or a house deposit-sized fine for praying a non-government-approved prayer, even if the person you prayed for asked you to do it.
Now, that’s been the law in Victoria for a few years already. But in April this year, New South Wales followed suit once again with prison sentences of up to 5 years for the crime of praying the wrong non-approved prayer. This is law in Australia today. This is not some one day in the future. This is not some shallow slippery slope argument about where we’re going. This is right here, right now in Australia. And if you thought that we were in dire straits when it came to our economy, which by the way we are, then actually in my opinion it’s this. This idolatry, this worship of government, this allowing of government to take the place of God by taking total control over every aspect of our lives. This is actually the most dangerous thing to the future of this beautiful country.
And the contrast between what we’re doing here, putting government onto God’s throne versus what President Trump is doing in the US, most certainly putting the God of the Bible back onto his throne. That contrast could not be clearer. Now, we’ll get to Trump’s speech at the Museum of the Bible in just a minute.
But first, my name’s Topher Field. This is the Topher Project, and I’m in the business of calling a spade a spade. If you appreciate having an Australian voice making content like this, saying what needs to be said, warts and all, then please buy me a coffee via the button at topherfield.net. And if you like my videos, you will love my books. There’s my first best-selling book, Good People Break Bad Laws, which is all about government power, human rights, and civil disobedience. And especially relevant to this video is my second best-selling book, Good Christians Break Bad Laws, which is all about the theology of civil disobedience, and discusses in detail what I’m covering in brief in this video, The Idolatry and Worship of Government as God. Now, you’ll find both those books, plus my multi-award-winning documentary, Battleground Melbourne, as well as my t-shirts and hoodies and a range of different designs at goodpeoplebreakbadlaws.com. And everything you buy will be helping me to keep doing what I do. So, thank you in advance.
Right here, right now in Australia, we have reintroduced religious laws, blasphemy laws specifically, but in a range of different forms that disguise the fact that we are now expected to give to government a level of power and authority that no human institution should ever be allowed to obtain.
Now, I’ve said for some time now that Australia and indeed the UK, Canada, New Zealand, and the USA are all past the point where a political solution will save us.
Yes, I believe we need to be involved in politics. And yes, in my case, political commentary seems to be the particular area where I’m called to do my best work. But ultimately, we can’t save ourselves. And neither can any political party save us. I know that this will upset a lot of my beloved viewers. But I’ve never let that stop me before and I’m not going to start now. I believe that it is only a return to God that can save us from ourselves.
And on that basis, I am absolutely delighted by the recent comments from President Donald Trump regarding the need for Christians in the USA to get serious about their faith once more. Earlier this week, President Trump attended the Religious Liberty Commission at the Museum of the Bible, where among other things, he announced his America Preys initiative. His full speech went for nearly an hour, and it is well worth watching. I’ll put the link in the description, but I’ve cut it down to about 5 minutes containing just the most crucial points.
Let’s take a few minutes to listen to President Trump because I promise you, you won’t hear our mainstream media in Australia reporting on any of this.

For thousands of years, the Bible has shaped civilization, ethics, art, and literature. And it’s brought hope, healing, and transformation to untold millions and millions of lives. The Bible is also an important part of the American story. For most of our country’s history, the Bible is found in every classroom in the nation. Yet in many schools today, students are instead indoctrinated with anti-religious propaganda. And some are even punished for their religious beliefs and very, very strongly punished. It’s ridiculous.
I’m pleased to announce this morning that the Department of Education will soon issue new guidance protecting the right to prayer in our public schools. And it’s total protection. [End video]
The applause will run for a long time. I had to cut it short.

So, and I made the official policy of the United States government that there are only two genders. You’re going to hate this. Male and female. [End video]
Again, the applause went for a long time.

But upon taking office, I also ended the weaponization of law enforcement against religious believers and pardoned the pro-life activists thrown in jail by Joe Biden for saying and I created the first ever Department of Justice task force to eradicate anti-Christian bias. And for those people that are a little bit naive or not well read, there is a tremendous anti-Christian bias. We don’t hear about it. We don’t think about it. You hear about antisemitic, but you don’t hear about anti-Christian. Now, you have a strong anti-Christian bias, but we’re ending that rapidly. I will tell you, it’s a whole we’re in a much different world today than we were one year ago. [End video]
This is like that’s very true.

And I began my remarks today by noting that the reverence for our creator I mean this we have reverence for our creator, and it’s inscribed into our Declaration of Independence. A copy of which I have very proudly hanging in the Oval Office, an original copy, very old, beautiful copy. Next year we will celebrate 250 years since that declaration was signed as part of the grand well, this is really a commemoration like I think we’re going to do we’re going to try and do a commemoration like nobody’s ever seen before. But we’ve invited America’s great faith communities to pray for our nation and for our people and for peace in the world.
On July 3rd, Mr. President of this year, you kicked off the year-long celebration of America’s 250th birthday in Iowa. You invited America’s faith communities to come together to pray for our country. Well, Mr. President, America’s faith communities are responding with overwhelming enthusiasm. As you can see here today, we’re a nation that has always believed in the power of prayer.
During a constitutional convention when our founding fathers and many of you know this were discussing the formation of our country, Benjamin Franklin stopped the debate and asked the delegates to pray for guidance from the Lord God Almighty. He famously said, “If a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without his notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without his aid?”
And you’ve all heard faith leaders across the country quote 2 Chronicles 7:14, which says, “If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and I will forgive their sins and will heal their land.”
On behalf of President Trump and ultimately the Lord God Almighty who calls us to pray without ceasing, I’m inviting all Americans to pray with unwavering faith for the renewal of our nation and our fellow citizens. Amen. Amen. All Americans.
So, America’s always been a nation that believes in the power of prayer, and we will never apologize for our faith. Ever, ever, never, never. We will never surrender our God-given rights. We will defend our liberties, our values, our sovereignty. And we will defend our freedom. And together, we will make our country greater, stronger, more united, and more faithful than ever before. Thank you. God bless you. And God bless America. Thank you very much. Thank you. [End video]
I promise you that’s real. Tell me, have you ever heard anything like that from a Western leader in your lifetime? Cause I definitely have not heard anything like that in my lifetime. And by the way, just as an aside, I’m hoping to make it to America in the middle of next year for that 250th birthday celebration. I think it’s going to be a celebration that is well worth attending and unlike anything else that I’ve ever seen in my lifetime.
Now, I want to draw your attention to the fact that he’s not making anything mandatory. He’s protecting people’s rights to do the things that they want to do. He’s not forcing anyone to do or to not do any particular thing. Now, some people will decry his speech as being state-sponsored religion. But actually, the opposite is true. State-sponsored religion is what we have here in Australia, where the government is regulating our prayer life, is punishing wrong-think, and is spending taxpayer money on pagan forms of worship specifically smoking ceremonies and the like whilst effectively outlawing the public expression of basic Christian beliefs.
Australia is beyond being saved by politics. Politics is important, and we should all get involved.
I’ve said that many times and I mean it. But if that’s all we do, then I’m sorry, but it will never be enough because this country is broken at a level far more fundamental than politics, or even culture, or even demographics. We are broken at a spiritual level because we are worshiping a false god the idol of government, the god of power. And even many churches have sadly joined in this pagan power cult of government. We saw that during COVID, when churches shut their doors in obedience to the government when actually, if they were filled with faith and believed that within their doors they held the keys, the answer to eternal life, then they should have flung those doors open wide and called for all who were sick or scared to come in and find peace with the one true and living God.
The hour in Australia is later than we think. And from where we are today, repentance is the only thing that can save us. Now, I know we just heard it from Secretary Scott Turner in that video, but I want to read to you again from 2 Chronicles 7:14.
It is a promise from God:
“If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
The hour is late, but it is not too late. It never is too late with God. But we have to get busy getting right with God. Until we do that, well, until then, we’ll continue to suffer under wicked rulers like the ones we have now. Violence and poverty will continue to flourish like it is now. And well, we’ll continue to get what we deserve, like we do now. And that’s not a good thing. Now, if you’re a believer, a Christian, then you know what we need to do.
My name’s Topher Field. This is the Topher Project. And this is what I do blunt, no-nonsense, political, cultural, and yes, Christian commentary. If you’ve appreciated this video and you see value in what I do, then please help me to keep the Topher Project going by buying me a coffee via the button at topherfield.net.
And be sure to check out both of my books Good People Break Bad Laws, about power and civil disobedience, and Good Christians Break Bad Laws, The Theology of Civil Disobedience, where I go deep into the Bible and into church history, and I lay out the theology of civil disobedience, and how Christians must obey God even in our fallen world.
